TITLE: Business and Projects Manager

LINE MANAGER: Emrys Green, Unit Twenty Three Director

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Apprentice and all freelancers

CONTRACT: Freelance

HOURS: Equivalent to four days a week. The days can be divided between the office, outreach meetings and work from home.

FEE: £15,000 pro rata

DEADLINE: Friday 27th March noon

INTERVIEWS: Thursday 3rd April at Unit Twenty Three

APPOINTMENT: Week starting 14th April (Depending on notice  for current job)

Job description

The Business and Projects Manager will take overall responsibility for the day to day running of Unit Twenty Three as well as growing the business and use of space and overseeing our artistic projects and training.

The breakdown of responsibilities is as follows:


  • Overall management of the company’s finances and managing the online accounting system, insuring all expenses, bills and income is logged.
  • Paying all invoices from freelancers and services provided for the company.
  • Invoicing for services that Unit Twenty Three provides, for e.g. space hire and training

Marketing & Publicity

  • Listing all training and space hire on various networks
  • Writing press releases and gaining editorials
  • Manage social network platforms
  • Ensure website is kept up to date
  • Write and send newsletters out to subscribers
  • Implement new ways of marketing Unit Twenty Three’s various services


  • Source different funding pots applicable to Unit Twenty Three
  • Write funding applications
  • Report back to funders about project outcomes


  • Manage freelancers, apprentice and anyone on work experience
  • Manage space hire and training
  • Implement & improve systems, for e.g. training booking and space hire
  • Maintain tidy facilities
  • Set up for space hire and training
  • Manage projects


  • Contact professionals within the arts, cultural, heritage, & public sector
  • Arrange meetings to promote current offers of Unit Twenty Three
  • Bring partners on board for current and future projects


  • Programme and run training relating to particular specialism
  • Come up with ideas for potential projects & oversee their fruition


  • Recruit freelancers on a project by project basis
  • Advertise for positions on various networks
  • Conduct interviews (with support from Directors)
  • Contract freelancers

Person specification

  •   Be willing to progress your career and attend relevant training E
  •  Experience of gaining funding  within the arts, cultural, heritage sector E
  •   Experience of managing budgets E
  •   Interest in the arts and the wider arts sector E
  •  Excellent written and communication skills E
  •   Demonstrable administrative and general marketing experience. E
  •  Self-motivated and can work off own initiative E
  •  Ability to network and talk passionately about the arts E
  •   The ability to time manage E
  •   Ability to work remotely and away from constant line management E
  •  Local knowledge of arts organisations D
  •   Experience in delivering training or workshops D
  •   Experience of managing staff, freelancers or volunteers  D
